Palms of Ascent - Week 5

Psalm 127 invites us to wrestle with one of the greatest tensions of the human experience: our desire for control. We work hard, make plans, build careers, raise families, serve in ministry, and pursue goals that matter deeply to us. Yet the Psalm begins with a sobering reality: unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. The issue is not hard work. The issue is believing that everything ultimately depends on us. The closer we draw to God, the more we recognize how limited our control really is and how faithful God has always been.

This Psalm is a gift to weary people. It reminds us that God is the Builder, the Watchman, the Provider, and the Giver. While we often spend our lives striving to achieve what we believe will bring significance, security, or legacy, God calls us to receive what only He can provide. From the gift of sleep to the gift of heritage, from children to future generations, Psalm 127 reveals that the life God is building through us is far greater than anything we could build on our own.
